This morning Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Industry Support and Recovery Martin Pakula announced an additional $287.5 million support package for businesses. This follows the announcement yesterday of a $3 billion relief package.

Here’s the highlights of the announcement for your review…

Sole trader relief
An estimated 33,000 sole traders across the state will have access to grants worth a total $100 million.

$3,000 grants will be available to sole traders operating in a closed or heavily restricted environment. Eligible sole traders must be operating from a commercial premise to be eligible.

$87.5 million Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package  
$58 million will be allocated via $5,000 grants for hospitality businesses to cover equipment purchase or hire as well as training and advertising costs to help them expand their outdoor operations. These grants are for both licensed and unlicensed venues with payroll under $3 million.

$29.5 million is being made available to local councils to support them in efficiently implementing and streamlining their processes to help expand outdoor operations. This includes $500,000 grants available to metro councils, and $250,000 grants available for regional councils.

Melbourne City Recovery Fund
$100 million jointly funded by the City of Melbourne has been dedicated to a Melbourne City Recovery Fund. This includes:

  • $30 million worth of cash grants available to small to medium-sized businesses to help support their transitioning requirements to be more COVIDSafe and comply with health directions.
  • $30 million to support the creation of COVIDSafe events and cultural activities to bring visitors back to the city.
  • $40 million will be allocated to infrastructure and streetscape improvements in the city to make the city more safe, accessible and sustainable.
